Rowers Race Qualification Criteria

Under 12 Beginners Race Eligibility

To Qualify to row in the Under 12 Beginners race, a Rower’s 12th Birthday must have fallen on or after 1st January of the current year and this must be the Under 12 Beginner Rower’s first year of being registered to row.

 

Novice Race Eligibility

Novice Races are intended solely for rowers who took up the sport as adults.

Eligibility to compete in Novice Races:

  • Novice Rowers must be 19 years or older on the day of the race and must not have previously rowed in any underage race classes.
  • Novice Rowers are only permitted to have rowed for a maximum of two years previously.
  • Novice Rowers are not permitted to have been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any race class other than Novice classes during the current or previous seasons.
  • Novice Rowers are permitted to have been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any Novice race during the current season only.
  • Novice Rowers who were placed 1st in the Novice class during a previous season shall no longer be eligible to compete in Novice class during the current or future seasons. i.e. achieving first place in Novice class in the current season causes a Novice Rower to lose his/her eligibility to compete in Novice classes in future seasons even if this is the rower’s first season.

 

Intermediate, Junior & Senior Class Ranking

Senior Race classes (Men’s & Ladies) are ranked as the Premiere Tier race grade.

Junior Race classes (Men’s & Ladies) are ranked as the Second Tier race grade.

Intermediate Race classes (Men’s & Ladies) are ranked as the Third Tier race grade.

 

Intermediate and Intermediate Ladies Races

Any crew or Rower that has been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd during the current season in either Junior or Senior Men’s/Ladies races is not permitted to row Intermediate Men’s/Ladies at the All-Ireland with the following exceptions:

  1. Rowers who are qualified to row in the Under 21 races are exempt from the restrictions stipulated in rule 2.
  2. One single Rower from a placed Junior crew can be a member of a valid Intermediate crew.

 

Junior & Senior Men’s and Ladies Races

Any crew or Rower that has been placed 1st, 2nd or 3rd during the current season in any Senior Men’s/Ladies races is not permitted to row Junior Men or Ladies at the All-Ireland with the following exceptions:

  1. Rowers who are qualified to row in the Under 21 races are exempt from the restrictions stipulated in rule 3.
  2. One single Rower from a placed Senior crew can be a member of a valid Junior Crew.

 

Senior Mixed Race

The qualifying criterion for a Senior Mixed crew is that each crew must contain a maximum of two men.

 

Pre-Veteran Races Eligibility

The eligibility requirements are that each crew member, both Male & Female is 30 years old on the day, and they must be registered with the ICRF as members of an ICRF affiliated club.

 

Veteran Races Eligibility

The eligibility requirements are that each crew member, both Male & Female is 40 years old on the day, and they must be registered with the ICRF as members of and ICRF affiliated club.

 

Masters Races Eligibility

All Masters races are categorised as Semi-Open races meaning that the crew members from each crew can be sourced from any combination of clubs in any combination and the composite rules do not apply.

The only eligibility requirements are that each crew member (Male & Female) is 50 years old on the day, and they must be registered with the ICRF as members of affiliated clubs.

 

Overage Mixed Races

The qualifying criteria for an Overage Mixed crew (Pre-Vets, Vets & Masters) is that the crew must contain 2 Male Rowers and 2 Female Rowers.

 

Legends Races Eligibility

Both the Ladies and Men’s Legends races are categorised as Semi-Open races meaning that the members from each crew can be sourced from any combination of clubs in any combination and the composite rules do not apply.

  1. The combined age of all four rowers in each crew must be 240 years or more.
  2. Provided that the combined age of the crew is 240 years or more, rowers under the age of 60 are permitted in the crew under the following conditions:
    • A Minimum of two (2) rowers in each crew must be 60 years or older. (means a maximum of two rowers under 60).
  3. In a Mixed crew, There must be at least one (1) Male rower 60 years or older and one (1) Female rower 60 years or older. (means a maximum of one (1) Male rower and one (1) Female rower under age 60).
  4. The date of eligibility will be on the day of the race.
  5. Only attained years of age will be counted when calculating ages of eligibility.
    • For example:
      • a person 60 years and 0 months and 2 days old will be counted as 60 years of age.
      • a person 59 years 11 months and 30 days old will be counted as 59 years of age. (the months and days are disregarded).

 

Sprint Races

Sprint Races are run over the 800m course (400m Outward/400m Return) They are open to ICRF Registered adult rowers of all experience and skill levels.

 

Races for Particular Boat Types and Classes

 

Heritage Races

The Heritage Races are open to crews competing in traditional East Coast Skiffs, Kerry 4 Oars, Slaney Cots and any other such class of traditional Irish rowing boat as may be deemed by the ICRF to provide similar qualities and levels of speed and manoeuvrability, such that a competing crew’s success or lack thereof, can be solely attributed to the abilities and qualities of the crew rather than the performance capabilities of the boat. Crews must comprise of 4 oarspersons and a cox or passenger. Crews need not be members of clubs affiliated to the Federation and there is no limit on the number of crews from any one club. All boats, without exception, must be entered in the lane draw.

 

Open Classic Races

The Open Classic races are open to all crews from anywhere in the world competing in four-oared fixed seat timber boats that are not fitted with outriggers. An outrigger is considered to be any fixing that provides a fulcrum to an oar outside of the boundaries of the gunwales of the boat. Crews must comprise of 4 oarspersons and a cox or passenger. Crews need not be members of clubs affiliated to the Federation and there is no limit on the number of crews from any one club. All boats, without exception, must be entered in the lane draw.

 

Seine Boat Races

The Seine Boat Race shall be run under the rules and guidance of the South & Mid Kerry Rowing Board over a distance and course agreed with the members South & Mid Kerry Rowing Board. Only Seine Boats built to the specifications and rules of the S.M.K.R.B. shall be eligible. For information on the rules of the Seine Boat Race please contact the S.M.K.R.B.

 

Timber Yawl Races

The Timber Yawl Races are open to crews competing in Cork Timber Yawls and any other such class of Irish rowing boat as may be deemed by the ICRF to provide similar qualities and levels of speed and manoeuvrability, such that a competing crew’s success or lack thereof, can be solely attributed to the abilities and qualities of the crew rather than the performance capabilities of the boat. Crews must comprise of 4 oarspersons and a cox or passenger. Crews need not be members of clubs affiliated to the Federation and there is no limit on the number of crews from any one club. All boats, without exception, must be entered in the lane draw.

 

St. Ayles Skiff Races

The St. Ayles Skiff Races are open to crews competing in St. Ayles Skiffs and any other such class of rowing boat as may be deemed by the ICRF to provide similar qualities and levels of speed and manoeuvrability, such that a competing crew’s success or lack thereof, can be solely attributed to the abilities and qualities of the crew rather than the performance capabilities of the boat. Crews must comprise of 4 oarspersons and a cox or passenger. Crews must be members of clubs affiliated to the ICRF through a member Association and there is no limit on the number of crews from any one club. All boats, without exception, must be entered in the lane draw.

 

Donegal Skiff Races

The Donegal Skiff Races are open to crews competing in Donegal Skiffs and any other such class of rowing boat as may be deemed by the ICRF to provide similar qualities and levels of speed and manoeuvrability, such that a competing crew’s success or lack thereof, can be solely attributed to the abilities and qualities of the crew rather than the performance capabilities of the boat. Crews must comprise of 4 oarspersons and a cox or passenger. Crews must be members of clubs affiliated to the ICRF through a member Association and there is no limit on the number of crews from any one club. All boats, without exception, must be entered in the lane draw.

 

Celtic Longboat Races

The Celtic Longboat Races are open to crews competing in either Celtic Longboats or Pembrokeshire Longboats and any other such class of rowing boats as may be deemed by the ICRF to provide similar qualities and levels of speed and manoeuvrability, such that a competing crew’s success or lack thereof, can be solely attributed to the abilities and qualities of the crew rather than the performance capabilities of the boat. Crews must comprise of 4 oarspersons and a cox or passenger. Crews must be members of clubs affiliated to the ICRF through a member Association and there is no limit on the number of crews from any one club. All boats, without exception, must be entered in the lane draw.
