The Strangford Spring Series is a set of four races for suitable Coxed Coastal Rowing Boats over the weekend of 22nd and 23rd March 2025.
.
The racing is run with the amazing tides that flow through The Narrows at the entrance to Strangford Lough and it is a test of coxing judgement as well as strength and endurance of the rowers.
.
The first race on each day will be south from Strangford Harbour to Mill Quarter Bay near Killard Point, a distance of almost 7 kilometres. At Mill Quarter the boats will come ashore for a changeover on the beach and the return race will be shortly after, following the change of tide.
.
There will be three main categories of boat competing in each race: Saint Ayles Skiff, One Design, FISA Quad, though other Coastal Coxed Fours can be included. Medals will be awarded to !st, 2nd and 3rd in each category in each race.
.
Attached is a flyer for the weekend. Please register your interest in advance by email to strangfordcoastalrowing@gmail.com for the attention of the club secretary Alicia Rooney and we will then send out the entry forms and full details.
.
The races are sponsored by The Cuan Guesthouse and Restaurant and they will be happy to take bookings for accommodation and for meals. Prize giving will be outside The Cuan on each day. There is other accommodation available in and near Strangford and we will be happy to give you details if that is of interest.
.
There is the possibility of getting some practice in on the Friday afternoon but please book this in advance so that we can have the necessary safety boats on the water. The tides that run between Strangford and Portaferry are not to be trifled with.
.
We hope to have a Music Session on Saturday evening and the different pubs and restaurants in Strangford will be delighted to see you.
So get in touch and let’s have a weekend of good fun and tough rowing! … See MoreSee Less
